ABOUT

Quick Q&A to get to know me! These are just a bunch of questions I gathered and thought would be fun to answer! I feel like this is a more interesting way of getting to know me!

1. What is your name?

Sarah Obina, Sarah-Kristine Sararania Obina to be exact

2. When’s your birthday?

14th November 1997

3. Did you choose your profession or did it choose you?

Um, that’s a tricky question but essentially, I think it chose me. From an early stage in my life, I already showed talent and interest in art, especially in drawing as you do as a young child being encouraged to be creative. However, as I grew up, that changed and the encouragement to be creative was no longer there and instead placed onto academic education. I excelled in academics all the way through high school until I was ultimately confronted in college about what I wanted to do with my life. Though art was no longer really part of my life, it still stayed with me, revealing itself in same doodles on the corner of my pages of biology and chemistry. And it came to a point where I was trying to avoid it but eventually came to choosing fine art in university.

4. What do you do when you’re not working?

Depending on the season, it varies from indoor or outdoor activities. In the summer, I enjoy exploring new places and spontaneously going to another city/place in the UK. In the winter, I love watching movies, dancing around in the kitchen. I like doing things with my friends and family, so I’m usually always surrounded by people.

5. What’s the craziest thing you hope to do one day?

I hope to skydive one day. I was a lot more fearless when I was younger and skydiving was one of the things I really wanted to do. Now that I’m older, the thought does scare me a little but my desire to do it still hasn’t faded. I just want to feel the rush of adrenaline when I push myself to do things that are not normally possible. And the view! To see the world like that would be amazing, especially if I skydive somewhere beautiful!

6. Are you usually early or late?

If you know me, you know I’m usually late.

7. What is your process for creating art?

Every project is slightly different of course. But usually, creating a strong concept is most important for me and this involves a lot of research and thinking, alongside a lot of planning. Depending on the project, I will usually learn and strengthen my skills and knowledge in the most suitable medium.

8. Are you a dog person or a cat person?

A dog person. I just haven’t found my cat, you know. Like a cat that I vibe well with.

9. What skill would you like to master?

Any skill involving technology and new media, or ceramics/pottery skills.

10. What inspires you?

Anything and everything can inspire me and my work. However, majority of my work is inspired by social/economic/political matters. I also enjoy researching other artists and their works.
