Up to Two (2020) – Exploration

Processes, exploration & experimentation

Plan

Video concepts

  • think of multiple concepts
  • write storyboard & script
  • arrange filming location & actors (if necessary)

Filming & Editing

  • Experimental filming
  • Editing videos (Premiere Pro)
  • Audio (make audio on Garage band or free stock music sites)

Installation

  • think of how videos are projected
  • projectors
  • other materials (e.g. screen)
  • room set-up/ composition

Experimentation of video

Film Still

Experimentation of different screens

Screen 1

Screen 1 – curtain screen

The screen bends too much because of the fabric, which results in the projection being distorted.

Screen 2

Screen 2 – soft fabric

Screen 2 is easier to manipulate because it’s softer, stretched and taped over clothing rack. Produced a straighter sharper surface for projection.

Set-up/ Layout

  • Set up in kitchen
  • Screen hung and stretched over clothing rack
  • Projector on opposing sides
  • Speakers connected to both projectors

Cons

  • Difficult to get timing right between each projection
  • Fabric too filmsy – distorted projections
  • Difficult to align both projections in exact – slightly off which doesn’t produce sharp projection

Future improvements

  • Use of sturdier solid screen i.e. reflective glass
  • Link timing of projection
  • Work more audio – experiment with doubling audio
